Phishing email - Utilized a [ DNSChanger Malware Warning ]

HKCERT received an incident report related to a phishing email today. The phishing email utilized a press release from Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) sent out on 27 June 2012 for reminding businesses and members of the public to check their computers for DNSChanger infection.

 

The content of the phishing email in Chinese version and resembled very much the original, except it had an underlying malicious URL below the displayed URL. (/my_url/en/blog/12062701). The malicious URL pointed to a malware.

 

 

Be cautious when you receive emails containing URLs. Below are some tips to avoid being one of the victims of phishing

  1. Move the mouse pointer over the URL and check the URL shown on the status bar before you click on it.
  2. Type in the URL on the browser instead of click on the URL from the email.
