Information Security Status Report -- Attacks Targeting Hong Kong (2014-10-05)

Hong Kong Computer Emergency Response Team Coordination Centre (HKCERT), which is operated by the Hong Kong Productivity Council, alerts the public to be vigilant to cyber attacks targeting their IT infrastructure.

Since Oct 2, HKCERT has been monitoring the cyber attacks targeting Hong Kong. They are in form of distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks and web defacement attacks. This is the status report as at 5:00pm today Oct 5, 2014.

One more non-government websites was defaced in the past day, making up to a total of 13 non-government defaced websites. Four of them have not been recovered.

Two more non-government websites were impacted by DDoS attacks in the past day, making up a total of 14 non-government websites being DDoS victims. 2 of them were inaccessible during the time of monitoring and 3 others had slow response.

While HKCERT will not disclose details of the victimized websites, we are working closely with the Office of Government Chief Information Officer, Hong Kong Police and other relevant parties to tackle these threats.
